Wales are desperate to secure a historic result and earn a place in the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup, but it will be a nearly impossible task.
Gareth Bale and company will need to engineer a cataclysmic upset to knock fellow British side England down and claim a spot in the Round of 16 for their own.
England, meanwhile, are sitting pretty atop the group and require just a draw to advance, while a win guarantees top spot.
For Wales, the situation is far more complex: a win will send them through if USA and Iran tie their match, but if that other game sees a winner, Wales must beat England by four goals to have a shot at knockout-stage qualification in what surely would be one of the most incredible results in World Cup history.
Even with the stakes for this match not especially high given Wales’ slim chances of progress, there’s still an air about this meeting, with the two British nations matching up on the World Cup stage for the first time. They previously met at Euro 2016, with England securing a late 2-1 win.
